What’s up with the landscaping?

To better understand the issues with Baseline’s landscaping in parks and other common areas, imagine your neighbor, Bob, hired someone to paint his house. Not only did the painter use the wrong color — an obnoxious yellow — they spilled buckets of it in Bob’s expensive landscaping.

As a courtesy, you take pictures of what you witness and give them to Bob, so he can follow up with the vendor. You could tell the painter directly that they need to fix the issues. But, they probably aren’t going to listen, because it’s not your property and you don’t sign their paycheck.

However, Bob uses your pictures to try to get the painter to take responsibility and correct the damage.

The painter may readily agree, but has to wait for warmer, drier weather to start the project. Or, the issue doesn’t resolve that easily. The vendor refused to correct the damage.

Now Bob must elevate his response to get the vendor to repaint the house and fix the landscaping. He would love to hire someone else to handle it immediately, but the expense and repairs are really the responsibility of the original vendor.

Bob is on top of it. He is making calls and doing everything he can to resolve the issues with all parties involved. In the meantime, you must look at the dead landscaping and neon yellow house next door. Unfortunately, you can’t just hire someone to make the repairs on his property. You can “nudge” your neighbor, but at the end of the day, you must have patience and grace while he works to resolve the issues.

That’s like the landscaping issues in Baseline’s common areas. With your community concern submissions and our inspection reports, the association provides documentation to our neighbors (other stakeholders at Baseline) to help them resolve community issues. But we can’t make their vendors do the job correctly and we can’t hire another vendor to fix problems on their property. All we can do is continue to provide pictures and other evidence that a problem exists, and continually check in on the stakeholder’s progress.

We all have the same goal — to make Baseline a great place to live. So, please continue to submit photos and report problems through community concern forms. As residents, you are the eyes and ears of the community. Your submissions are vital for the resolution of issues.

We will provide updates to your concerns as we have them. But sometimes those updates may be no progress has been made yet. That doesn’t mean we aren’t “nudging” stakeholders behind the scenes.

We appreciate everyone who is doing their part each day to make Baseline beautiful and a wonderful place to live. We will continue to do our part, too. We also appreciate your patience and grace while stakeholders work to resolve issues with more complex and lengthy resolutions.
